EX-PORTER CHARGED. LAMBTON STATION EPISODE. Ah ex-Civil Servant named Frank 0 Brien Gillespie ivas charged before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., -with attempting to break and enter tho Lambton railway station counting house. Chief-Detective Broberg prosecuted, and Mr. V. R. Meredith appeared for tlio defence. Arthur Win. Hutclungs, station-master, Lambton railway station, stated that on Sunday, Juno 29. at 3.30 p.m., while he was working in his office (which is next to the booking office), ho was disturbed by someone tapping quietly at tho booking officer door. Too knocking was then repeated on his door, but ho took no notice.' Immediately afterwards he heard someone fitting a key in thblxioking office door. Thinking that it was one of the clerks going on duty, he still took no notice. Presently the key. was fitted into the lock of his office door. Witness got 1 up and opened the door,,but saw no one. On going into the porters' room, he 6aw accused aiding behind tho door. Witness inquired what he was doing, and he replied that ha had been sent there by Mr. Rees, of the Thorhdon station, to get a magazine out of the booking office. Witness invited accused to come into the booking office, which he did, but they could not find any magazine. Accused told witness that Mr. Itces had given him tlio key. Witness then, ordered accused off the premises. Tho accused had beon in tho railway service for about four years, and from November, 1912, to January, 1913, he was parcel porter at the Lambton station.

Other evidence was also given. Accuwd pleaded not guilty, aaid was committed to the Supremo Court for trial. Bail was allowed in the sum of .£4O. OTHER POLICE CASES. A sir], 17 years of age, named jfcSSUlliis.il WKK'.a, pleaded guilty to a charge of committing theft of the following-:—Ouo feather boa, pair lady's 6hoes, a blaclc dress, a blue dress, a Bilk blouse, a slip bodice, a pair of combinations, a hair c«inb, six lady's handkerchiefs, five pairs of lady's hose, and Bs. 6d. in cash, of a total value of £6 10s., the property o£ Mrs. Nellie Goulderick. On the application of the police, accused was remanded for sentenco until Friday -week, in order to allow the girl's parents, who reside in Auckland, to be communicated with. Norman Frasor, alias Brasier, was charged before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday with having assaulted and robbed' a negro named Ed Lopez of the sum of S3. Accused entered a plea of not guilty, and was committed to tho Supreme' Court for trial. Henry Francis M'llroy pleaded not guilty to a charge of being an idle and disorderly person, who consorted with reputed thieves. A sentence of tiro weeks' imprisonment was imposed. Mary Smith, who pleaded guilty to a charge of insobriety, was ordered to pay il medical expenses. For breach of his prohibition order, Samuel Telfer was fined ■£!!. On a charge of discharging a revolver at David Fisher with intent to do grievous bodily harm, Duncan Cruickshank was remanded for medical examination until July 18. Wm. Cars ten vras remanded for medical examination on charges of assaulting Walter Weaner and , Constable Thomas Shannon.
