PLANT A TREE.

ARBOR DAY ARRANGEMENTS. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), ilr. W. H. Morton (city engineer); Mr. J. R. Palmer (town clerk), Mr. (J. Irost (chairman of Iho Reserves Committee), and Mr. Glen (superintendent df reserves) held n. meeting, yesterday, to discuss matters in connection with Arbor Day (Wednesday next). Mr. Glen reported that he visited several of the schools, the scholars of which .wished to do some' planting in honour of the day, in order to ascertain the. number aftd class of trees that wero required. These were tlio Maranui, Island Buy, liilbirnie, Newtown, South Wellington, Brooklyn, Mitchelltown, and Roseneath Schools. Tho Torrace School had still to be visited. Arrangements were made to deliver parcels of trees to each of the schools. To cnsuro that tlio holes shall' be properly dug and the ground prepared, an inspection of the different planting areas will be made on Monday next. .If the necessary preparation has not then been made, no trees will bb delivered on the Tuesday. Groups of privato persons who have intimated their desire to plant suitable areas will also bo supplied with tries. The following will lie the itinerary of til? Mayoral planting party:—Kilbirnie School. 9.15 a.m.; Roseneath, 10 a.m.; Section 48 (Kclburne), 11 a.m. (the official ceremony); Newtown School, 2 p.m.; Island Bay, 3 p.m.
