ANGLICAN SYNOD.
' EXTEA PAROCHIAL VOTES. The session of the Wellington Diocesan Synod was continued yesterday, afternoon and evening,-his Lordship Bishop Sprott presiding. • Tlio Ven. Archdeacon Harper introduced a Bill to amend Act IV by tlio addition of the following new clause:—"l'ho vestry shall hayb power, with the consent of tlio curato of the parish, to vote money at its discretion, from tlio parish funds', 1 - for objects outside the parish."
The mover explained that tho new clause was rendered necessary by the answer to a question given by his Lordship earlier in the session, to tho effect that vestries have no power to vote money from the parish funds for outside objects. He gave various examples of such contributions which liavo been made for many years past, although they now seem to have been illegal. One of these was the payment of a sum of money by each of the three parishes in the City of Wellington for the salary of a chaplain to the public institutions. If the Act were not amended, it would bo impossible for tho richer parishes to help the poorer. The Bill was amended in committee by the words "with the consent of the curato of the parish." In its amended form tho Bill passed the third reading, A further Bill, introduced by Archdeason Harper sought to amend Act V by the addition of a new clause, as follows:— "It shall be lawful the vestry to authoriso offertory collections to be made for extra parochial purposes,' with the consent of the curate of the parish or parochial district." The Bill was passed through all its stages, and adopted. Raising of Church Funds; The debate on tho lie v. E. I. Sola's motion: "That this Synod desires to impress upon Church people the need of greater • effort being made to maintain parochial work and organisation by the ireo-will offerings of the people," was resumed. Mr. Sola replied to those speakers who had supported bazaars, euchre parties, etc., as a means of raising money for Church purposes. Tho motion was carried. Military Affairs Committee, 'The Rev. A. M. Johnson moved the consideration of the report of the Military Affairs Committee (already. published) The clause relating to the financing of committee was discussed in committee for several hours, and when finally reported, read as follows:—"That it be'a reronmiienda, tion .to th's Military Aft'ains Committee to approach each parish and parochial district with a view to raising a fund of at least £100 for this purpose." Tho other clauses were carried'without dissent, and tho report was finallv adopted in open Synod.
