By wireless last evening the "Union Company's Manuka advised that 6ho was expected to arrive at Wellington from Sydney at noon to-day. Tho vessel will berth at tho Queen's Wharf to land passengers and discharge cargo. ARAWA'S VOYAGE. Having arrived in tho stream at Wellington from London late on Monday night the Shaw-SaviU 6toamer Arawa berthed at the Queen's Wharf No. 1 south yesterday morning. Departure was taken from Grave-end on May 22, and until entering tho Bay thick fog was encountered. Thence to TenerifFo fine weather was tmet with, and she* arrived thero on. May 29. After a few hours' stay the vessel continued ner voyage, and good weather prevailed on the run down to Cape Town, where she arrived on Juno 13. Bunker cool was taken i in at tho South Airican port prior to commencing the journey acroes the Southern Ocean, during which the usual heavy weather which prevails in that locality at this time of the year, was experienced. The Arawa arrived at Hobart. on July 2, ana, after discharging passengers, mails, etc., and loading 10,000 eases of apples for transhipment at Wellington, she sailed on tho final 6tretch of her long voyage. Rough weather prevailed during the run across the Tasman Sea. Farewell Spit was sighted at 1.39 p.m. on Monday, and tho steamer arrived as above. Throughout tho voyage the vessel averaged 13 knots. Captain H. Clayden is still in command of the Arawa, and has the following officers associated with, him:—Chief, Mr. F. Green; seoond, Mr. A. G. Ourtis; third, Mr. W. F. Maiden (late fourth); .fourth, Mr. a Roberts. Mr. 0. K. Cleator "chief engineer, Mr. J. T. Norris seoond, Mr. M. O'Conn-ell third, Mr. A. E. Cooper fourth, Mr. L. ?. MacConville fifth, and , Mr. J. Hobden. chief steward, and Dr. G. BaTr is ship's surgeon.
WAHINE AND THE FERRY SERVICE. ( It is expeoted that thei now turbine steamer Wahinc will arrive ait Lyttelton on i Tuesday, J.uly 15, and will loclyo the eamo < night for Wellington', on her maiden trip in the ferry service. At present a very ( largo number of meni arc fit work on the vessel at Port Chalmers getting her ready J for Tunning. . ± ~ '* The Maori will continue running until the arrtvaj of tho Wfthine. Thei Maori ] will then go down to Port Chalmers for j an extensive overhaul and refit. Her bow rudder, which has been clomped aud scoured for the time being, will be taken out at Port Chalmers for extensive repairs, tho damage caused by tho mishap ; last week being very oxtensive. _ Captain ATdwell, of the Maori, will take i command of the Wahine, when, she starts ,i running, and will have Mr. Nicholas, who cama out with the vessel, with him as chief officer. Captain '8. Vint, who brought the Wiahine out from tho Clyde, is at present acting-master of the TaTawera. He will probably bring tho Wahine up to Lytr talton end take the Maori back to Port Chalmers. KENT'S EXPECTED A&RIVAL. The V. and S. Line's steamer Kent as* at ■ present engaged in discharging Liverpool cargo at Auckland. Hinomoa left Auckland for northern lighthouses at 6.30 a.m. yesterday. An arrival in port from St. John (Canada), via way poTts, yesterday morning was the New Zealand. Shipping Company's Rakaia. She will continue her journey to southern ports to-day. Tho Shaw, Ravill steamer Woiwera is expected to clear Auckland for London, tomorrow. It is expected that two of the four new F. and S. liners now in course of construction at Dunkirk will be delivered towards tho end of the present year, while tho others are expected to bo ready early in 1914. The four new steameTs will be of the -same pattern as the Dorset except for tho fact that they will be essentially of tho cargo clas3. It is understood that the contract speed for each vessel is from 12 to 13 knots per hour. Bad weather has detained tho Mangapapa at Karaimea. The vessel was inside ready to sail for Wellington yesterdayTho auxiliary scow Echo was outside tho bar yesterday. Tho Union Company's big cargo carrier Waihora will be dispatched for Lyttelton to-day with tho remainder of her Newcaistlei coal cargo. The process of overhauling tho Monowai at Port Chalmers will take longer than expected. and the vessel will not now resume running from Duncdin until Tuesday, July. 22.
