SWIMMING.

THORNDON CLUB. The annual dinner of the Thorndon Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening. Mr. T. Ronayne presided. Tho Hon. A. L. Herdman, M.P., was among those visitors present. In responding to tho toast of visitors, Mr. Herdman said that ho thoroughly believed in the sport of swimming, and also had had the pleasure of swimming in the Thorndon baths. He Imped that the club would continue to flourish, as it had been responsible in no small way in making men of a largo number of young members. Mr. Herdman also expressed the opinion that thoso responsible for building the wharves and carrying out reclamation works at Thorndon must not forgot that a space must be left for swimming accommodation. Tho'cha irman presented the prizes won by memlwrs of the dull during the past season. To Mr. R. XcUoti he presented the Walker and nail Cup, which tho Thorndon Club won in winning the Flying Squadron Championship of 500 yards. The Ward Challenge Cup (presented by Sir Joseph Ward) was presented to Mr. li. C. B. Wilkinson, who holds it . for a year. A presentation of a silver-mounted f'alad bowl was made to Mr. .T. Calnan, custodian of tho Thorndon Baths. Tho musical items were a feature of tho evening, the contributors being Messrs. Connors an<l Hall, 11. N. Fletcher. J. Gosling, It. F. Digby, and Dr. N. Hales. TWO WORLD'S RECORDS. Qy TeleirraDh— Press Association—Conrrfuhl San Francisco, July G. • Duke Kahanamoku, of Hawaii, won a hundred yards swimming event in 5i 3-5 sec., and a seventy-five yards event in 39 4-ssec.—both world's records.
