AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

THE AMERICANS. Tho Now Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met last night. Mr. A. A. Marryatt presided. Respecting the coming tour of American athletes tho Hamilton Club guaranteed ,£25, and intimated, that they were endeavouring to get a special track laid down. Tho Wairarapa Association (Masterton) offered to guarantee .£4O if the Americans appeared tliero on Boxing Day. New Year's Day (the day suggested) would not suit. A letter from Otago was considered satisfactory.' Tho Victorian Association notified that it was in favour of a visit from the Americans providing tie team was of first-class quality. The association asked for more details regarding tho proposed cost. Tho suggestion was made that tho team should tour ono island of New Zealand until January 5, and then visit Australia, afterwards touring the other half of New Zealand. A sub-committco was set up to deal with the letter. Tho New South Wales Association wrote to tho same effect as Victoria. Tho Tasmanjan Association wrote that it could not bear the cost as suggested of a visit from tho Americans, but if arrangements could be made for tho Americans to visit Hobart, accomixinied by the New Zealand ream on their return from tlio Australian championships in Melbourne, tho Tasmanian Association would bo prepared to pay the fares of tho American team from and back to the mainland and fflio accommodation of both teams whilst they were in Hobart. Tho South' Australian Association, replying to an invitation from New Zealand to co-operato in the matter of tho visit, stated that the project was beyond its capacity. A letter from Mr. W. Unmack, of San Francisco, suggested that the American team should arrive in Wellington on December 16. Tho New Zealand Association has already decided that the team slimild arrive here on December 2. Communication was received to tho effect tliat tho Victorian Association had selected Saturday, January 31, 1913, mid February 2, 1914, as the dates for tho Australian championships, whicji are to bo run in Melbourne.
