THE GREY SEAT CONTEST.
MR. MICHEL AT COBDEN, (By Telegraph— Presß Association.) Groymouth, July 7. Mr. Michel addressed electors at Cobden last evening. There was o crowded attendance, some 400 being present. Mr. Michel stated thnt, in addition to holdings, which had been subdivided through the increased graduated tax. tho Government had purchased during tho year ,£775,571 of land for settlpmont. They had increased the scope of tho Pensions Act. Instead of decreasing wages to 6s. per day wages had increased. ThoLiberal Government, in 1911, paid Bs. at ICumara. The present Government, for 6imilar work, was now paying lis. A large number of questions wero satisfactorily answered, and a vote of thanks concluded an enthusiastio meeting. THE NOMINATIONS. Greymouth, July 7. Owing to the Maori not connecting at Lytteltou, Mr. Webb was unablo to reach hero oil Saturday to continue his political campaign after a week's absenco at the Unity Conference. He secured a motor at Cliristchurch to overtake the train at Springfield, but owing to a mishap to the motor will not reach here till to-mor-row night. Nominations have closed. Mr. Michel (Government), Mr. Haiuian (Opposition), njid Mr. Webb (Social Democrat) have been nominated. Great interest is being tnkeii, and tlie general opinion is that a second ballot Ivill be necessary.
