The Miners' Association declares that nearly all the miners have struck; the remainder will go out to-morrow. Pretoria, June 3. Five hundred of tho Bedford Regiment have been 6onfc to, the Rand. , DOCK STRIKE IN SCOTLAND. London, July 3. A dockers' strike at Leith has thrown idle eleven thousand Lothian miners. IRRESPONSIBLE AGITATORS AT WORK. (Reo. July 4, 10.55 p.m.) Johannesburg, July i. The employers eoouit t'lio idea of arbitration, on the ground that there is nothing to arbitrate upon. Strong contingents of military have been sent to the various power stations as a precaution against sabotage. A ballot of tho local branches of the Engineers' Union, by nine to one, favours tho strike. The carpentera and joiners are unanimous for a strike, and the masons, by 81 votes to 13, havo also voted in favour. A feature of- tho miners' attitude is tho ease with which they have been influenced by irresponsible agitators. Even in mines where tho ballot showed a majority against the strike, it was obvious that tho union, leaders' hands were'forced. ANXIETY IN FINANCIAL CIRCLES. • (Reo. July 4, 10.55 p.m.) London, July 4. It is calculated in the city that if the whole of the Rand mining industry is hold up throughout, the month of July, .tho. outlook will be serious, because the London bullion market has ooumted upon the arrival of thi-eo millions in gold, which will be unavailable. The Bank of England's Share in this deficiency will probably total £2,200,000. It is generally anticipated that the strike will be short-lived, owing to the grave dangers to all parties, including the miners, if the workers were idle for any length of time.
