ANGLICAN SYNOD.

THE CHURCH AND THE ARMY. .The Wellington Diocesan Synod continued its session yesterday, his Lordship Bishop Sprott presiding. The Rev. A. M. Johnson presented the Toport of tho Military Affairs Committee. The committee 1 recommended, that at the first session of cach Synod a committeo ba elected, consisting of>five clergy and four laity, the latter not necessarily membors of Synod; that the committeo present on annual report to Synod; I tthatt t vacancies caused in tho committee during the trionnial period be filled up by the Standing Committeo; that the Standing Committee be authorised to voto money at its discretion out of tho General Church Fund for tho work undertaken by tho Military Affairs Committee; that until the next Synod meets tho following bo elected as members of the committee fI?cvs. R. Hermon, H. Watson, A. W. H. Corapton, G. B. Stephenson, A. it. Johneon, Colonel Purdy, Messrs. J. W, Henderson and W. 11. S. Moorhouse. Tho movor said that tho present time marked a very important crisis in tho life; of the young men of the Dominion. The old inefficient volunteer system had been superseded by the Territorial system, which had come to stay. , Those .vicars who had lads' clubs had noticed that of late the attendance had been very much less, sinco the lads had to go to drill. They were glad to see the boys go to drill, aa they wero receiving excellent physical training, but on the other hand the Church was losing its direct touch with them. A much greater responsibility was therefore cast on tho chaplains "who attended training camps with ths troops, lie speaker paid a tribute to the general officer commanding the forces and his staff inr the consideration they had always extended to the chaplains. The &7nod sat in committee for several tours to discuss the details of the report, one mat er being eventually adjourned Until Moi/lay.
