ANGLICAN SYNOD.
THE THIRD DAY OF SESSION. BISHOPRIC ENDOWMENT. The session of the Wellington Anglican Synod was eont.imiod yesterday afternoon and evening, his Lordship Bishop Sprott presiding. The Veil; Archdeacon l-'ancourt moved: "(1) That permission be given to the Bisi:op and the parsons who are the present attorneys of the Society tor the propagation of tho Gospel to take over from that society its Wellington Bishopric Endowment Trust, and all property and investments held by the S.i'.U. under that trust. (2) That permission be given to tho same persons to apply for incorporation under the Keligious, Charitable, and Educational Trusts Act, ISJOS, in respect of the trust so to b? taken over from the S.P.G., and also in respect of the properties and investments of the Bishopric Endowment Fund already held by such persons as trustees for that fund." The mover outlined tha history of the trust ftipd. It consisted originally of .£±ooo, being .£2OOO given by the New Zealand Company and ,£2OOO given by the S.l'.G. The fund was originally an endowment to further the work of the. Church in the Wellington district. When it was desired to establish a bishopric, the Secretary of State had to be assured that there was an assured income for the bishop. Consent was given by the donors to the application of the fund for this purpose, and the S.P.G. added another .£IOOO, which had originally been provided for the Porirua College, making a total of .£SOOO. As the money bore interest at 10 per cent., an ineomci of .£SOO a year was assured. The fund had ever since been controlled by the S.P.G., through attorneys in-the diocese. It was proposed that the attorneys should still administer the fund, but as a duly incorporated bo(ly under New Zealand law, and not as representatives of a body having its headquarters in England. The motion was carried.
Parish Boundaries Altered. The Rev. C. Askeiv moved that the boundaries of St. Mark's Parish, Wellington, 1m removed from Mein Street to the southern boundary of the Hospital Rewrvo p.nd the Town Belt. It was explained by the mover that the present "boundaries of >St. Mark's included a district which was really moro convenient to St. Thomas's, and the people living in that district were disfranchised, as they attended services at St. Thoma-s's, but were included in St. Mark's parish. Thfe.v had therefore' no right to take part in elections for officers of the church at which they worshipped. The motion was carried. , The Bible Society. The Rev. W. G. Williams introduced a motion recognising the mat importance of the work dene by the British and Foreign Bible Society, and recommending its whole-hearted support to all members of the Anglican community in the diocese. The 'mover. and /several other speakers warmly eulogised 1 the work of the society. The motion was carried. Eloction of Synod. Archdeacon Tlarpw moved the second reading of his bill to amend Act I. The principal amendments proposed that should-the bishop of the diocese give notice of his resignation before the election of the Synod has been held, the period for which the Synod was elected shall be extended until a new bishop has been or provision made by the Synod for Ilia appointment; that'the churchwarden elected, by the parishioners shall be the returning officer in each parish or parochial'district; that the returning officer shall appoint the place and time of nomination, and make other' arrangements.
