POULTRY t CANARIES.
THE LOCAL SOCIETY'S SHOW. / The Wellington Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Society's thirty-first championship show was opened by his Excellency the Governor (Lord Liverpool) yesterday afternoon. -There was 11 Rood attendance, despite tho inclement weather. His Ex-, cellency and Lady Liverpool were welcomed by Jhe Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), and tho president of tho society (Air. G. Finn), and in tho course of a short speech the Governor declared the show open. In point of entries the show is tho best yet held by the society. This year they total 955, while last year they were 649, and the, exhibitors number 202, us compared with 137 last year. The exhibits are made up as follow:—289 ,iu the poultry section; 286 pigeon section; 300 canary spction; and 26 entries ill the cat section. Lady Liverpool carried off the New Zealand championship in the Pekin buff,, bantam cockerel class. Tho show will bo open' to-day and to-morrow. The Championships.
