At the Police Court this'morning, before Mr. Bartholomew, S.M., Peter Wadsworth was ctiargpd with, on' July 1, knowingly and wilfully making a |^^. 0 . tidri. for the purpose of obtaining the registrar's certificate authorising a w himself and Margaret Todd by stating that tho-girl was 21 years of age. Tho marriage took place' yesterday at the'.office ,of the: registrar. Whenar-' rested l aooused nnd his wife were, apoitt to leave for, Gdsborne. where, accused, stat ed that he had employment. They had come from Wyiidharn fch.o day before, and had induced two persona to act as' wjtAeeses at the marriage. . Accused admitted tli-at be %ad known tbat thie girl was under '21 years of age. '' Edward Todd, father of thp girl, stated that she left home on. Monday for a music lesson)/anil did not -return. Hia daughter would be 17 years of age on July 8. He was never consulted as to' his consent to tlio- marriage,' and," moreover, bo had told 'accused not to come near his place, as lie was'not "good enough" to come.into the. family. ■ On the application of counsel for accused, the latter ' was committed' to the Supremo Court at •Wellington for pei)..tenco, but, in the afternoon, counsel asked that accused' be committed for trial at | Dunedin. This was agreed to, bail being'allowed.
