A meeting of the Executive Committee of the New Zealand Civil Service Association ras held last evening. Corre- - 6pondence in rospect to the approaching conference wa3 dealt with. Delegates have been' appointed from all the existing branches in New Zealand to attend the conference. In view of the probability of. the classification scheme as affecting the Service not being available until towards the end of July, the meeting of tho conference lias been postponed till August (i. The Public. Service Commissioner has been communicated with in rcspect to the leaveof nbsencu for the delegates attending Hie conference. Remits of general interest to the' Service havo been submitted by the various branches, but in consequence of the postponement of the conference meeting, it is proposed to lcavo the ordur paper open lintil .Tuly 15. It is expected that tho forthcoming conference will bo the most important held in connection with Hie Civil Service. During (he month of April twenly-liirre vessels, with a total tonnage of 119,000, were built in the Clyde. These figures constitute .i record for the month.
