At tho inquest concerning iho Oro Or# tragedy, tho evidence showed that tho Maori girl had lived with Graham near Horopito, but ho showing signs of peculiarity sho left him and wont to rolativca at Ore Oro. Graham followed with a poa rifle, took off his boots, and slipped in tho door of tho liouso wlioro tho girl waa alone. Hearing a noiso sho camo into tlio room, where Graham, from behind tlio door, shot her fatally. Another Maori woman called out to the girl's aunt, I'uta, who rushed into tlio' house, seized a saw, and attacked Graham with fatal results. A verdict-was rcturnod that the girl Nirito was shot by Graham, the jury being of the opinion, that ho was 'mentally'unsound. i Tho verdict on Graham was that lis met his death from wouuds inflicted, by l'uta, the jury being of opinion Uiat Ihe latter under tho circumstances was uu blameable.
