TOWN HALL CLOCK.
TWO MONTHS TO PROCURE IT. Two months is tlio timo allowed by the Orphans' Club for raising the' necessary funds to procure a clock for the Town Hall. The club had a crowded meeting at the Grand Hotel last night to consider suggestions for attaining tho desired end. Colonel Collins presided, and those present included his Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. I'. Luke) and the ex-Mayor (Air. I>. M'Jjareii). Members were enthusiastic and unanimously adopted the suggestion of the'club's executive to move in'the mailer. A practical method of carrying out the suggestion was soon under consideration. Eventually tho club decided upon popular subscription, and it was tho general wish that the money should bo raised within two months. Lach member will sell numbered coupons at a shilling fl-piece, and later on there will bo a drawing at a celebration conccrt at illio Town Hull, and the lucky number will, entitle its holder to a gold specimen, provided tho-necessary permission for tho drawing is obtained. As evidence of the enthusiasm at last night's meeting, it may bo mentioned that guarantees wero received representing .£SO. The Mayor guaranteed to take <£20 worth of coupons. A committee of about ?<) was subsequently formed to immediately set tho scheme afloat. It is hoped to issue coupons at tho end of tho present week.
