PORTER'S DISQUALIFICATION. FULL STATEMENT. The recent disqualification of "Len" Porter, the light-weight professional boxer, by the Wanganui Boxing Association was the subject of a communication from the New Zealand Boxing Council read at last night's meeting of the Wellington Boxing Association. "In endorsing the association's action." said tho letter, "in disqualifying Porter from further participation in the sport in New Zealand, the Council considered Porter's attitude towards • the association's officials to be such as to necessitate, a statement of tho charges against him being forwarded to local associations." Tho charges as submitted to Porter for his defence were set out in details. Mr. W. E. Quigley, a member of tho Wanjjanui Committee, reported that Porter stated that Mr. Quigley had arranged for the decision in the Truscott-Porter fight to be given in favour of Truscott, as Mr. Quigley had backed Truscott. Porter said, also, that ho knew that another official had won ,£3O over Porter's fight with Ojault. In this instance, too, Porter mentioned the referee. Mr. A. G. Mackay, another member of the committee, said that Porter and his brother had occused him of having backed Truscott. Mr. F. D. Gaffney, a committee man, stated that Porter had more than once told him that the referee in his fight with Truscott was "squared." • Other evidence of a somewhat similar nature was set out. Porter's reply was reported to bo an emphatic denial of the charges. Tho decision of the New Zealand Council was to endorse the disqualification for life imposed by the 'Wanganui Centre. This council considered that the officials of the Wanganui Centre had cause for action, and that officials of associations must bo protected to tho fullest extent from such attacks. ' TIMARU'S TOUENEY. Mr. T. Samson (Wellington) has been appointed, to act as referee at the Timaru tournament, and Messrs. G. Bush (Nelson) and F. Burns (Auckland) to bo judges. T. Leary (feathor-weight), who was elected to represent Wellington at Timaru, has notified the Wellington Association that he will not be able to obtain leave from his work. F. Kerr, of Paimerston North, has been appointed to take his place. It has been decided to send G. Hunter (light-weight) in place of E. Stewart, who cannot make the trip. NOT A CHAMPIONSHIP. Tho Now Zealand Council has drawn tho attention of the Wellington Association to the fact that the Bush Association (Pahiatua), though not affiliated with the New Zealand Boxing Association, had billed 1 its last match (between B. Ireland and T. M'Grath) as for the middle-weight championship of New- Zealand. The council had Written to the Bush' Union stating that tho match would not bo recognised as a championship contest. -HOCK KEYS AND HAGERTY. Aa evidence of the interest beinsf displayed in the meoting between Hagorty and Keys on Thursday evening, the secretary of the Boxing Association states that ■the booking already constitutes a record for any tournament promoted by that body. Hagorty arrived on Saturday morning, and is putting the finishing touches to his training at Goalie's Gymnasium. Keys, who is training at Tracy's, has been displaying all his old-time cleverness, and those who have witnessed his training bouts express the opinion that he is the most attractivo exponent ever seen here. As preliminaries to the contest, three firstclass .amateur contests should be seen in the meetings between Flan and Ryder, Brice and M'Morran, Tracy and M'Nicholl. /Residents of the Hutt and Petono are asked to note that the 10.35 p.m. train will be delayed until 10.45 to enable patrons to stay until the end of tho tournament.
