CHILD'S CLOTHES IN FLAMES; THE MOTHER'S EFFORT. ' (By Telezraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganul, June 28. Further particulars . ,concerning. tile death at Inglowood of- the ..little child named Ellen flames aro to the effect that the girl was" left in front of a lighted store while , her mother went out to .get firewood. No sooner had Mrs. James left the room than she found the child ablaze. She did her. best smother the flames, eventually putting the little one under the tap. A sad feature of the fatality is that this is the second child that the parents have lost,'.' Mrs. James stating at the inquest that another of her children had died as the' result of scalding, the little one having upset a saucepan over itself. The'medical evidence showed that the present case "was hopeless from tho first, owing to extensive burns on every part of tho body. A verdict of accidestal death was returned. ' INVERCARGILL INQUESTS. > Invercargill, June 20. An inquest was held on Saturday on the body of Samuel Sinclair, who was found drowned in the "N'aihopai River. Evidence was Riven to the effect chat deceased had apparently walked into the river, his feet becoming embedded in the soft mud. Tho suggestion was that he had been overcomo by a fit and fallen forward. The inquiry was adjourned for medical evidence. An inquest was also held concerning the death of <1 girl, two years of a;;e, named Edith Miller. The evidence was to the etfcct that tho little girl secured a box of worm tablets, which had the appearance of lollies. Dr. Ewart stated that (03 many of these tablets would cause x state of collnpsc, and that death could have been duo to this. Another doctor stated that such a remedy should only bo administered under a doctor's orders, • or bo put on the poison schedule. The inquest was adjourned to enable the child's mother to attend. MOTOR CYCLE SMASH. Mr. Healy, the secretary of the City (T,?ngue) Football Club, met witfi an accident yesterday morning, which might easily have had more serious consethan was actually the case. Hewas motor-cycling along Buckle Street,' when, in swerving sharply to avoid children who were playing on the road,: his machine skidded, struck the kerb-;, stone with considerable force, and threw: ; the rider nearly 20 feet. Luckily, he. escaped with a few bruises and scratches, . but his cycle was rather badly smashed. HOCKEY ACCIDENT. A hockey player named H. Pcrrin dislocated his collarbone whilst playing on Saturday and was removed to the hospital.
