MURDER AT ORE ORE.
MAORI WOMAN SHOT.
RELATIVE SLAYS THE SLAYER,
(Br Telegraph.—Preai Association.) Wanganui, June 29. Information hns reached Wanganni of a eensntional affair at Ore Ore, wherein a ' Maori woman win murdered mh! the slayer has himself been slain. , It appears that a man named Joe Graham had. for some time, been living with a Maori woman named Hirita Tenata. They fell out on Friday, a/id Graham left intending to go to a neighbour's place. Yesterday Hirita's annt nnd sister saw hiin return with his swag as if going to Raetihi, and, Eomo time aftorwardu, they heard a shot from the direction ,of the house in which Graham was' wont to lire. They went over and found Graham in tho ted room. On their going in he'endeavoured.to hide the dead body of his companion by standing between it and the intruders. He had shot . Hirita with a pea rifle. Roused ' to fury at the sight, deceased's sister took ■up a heavy cross-cut saw and savagely attacked Graham, inflicting frightful injuries oh his head. This was about 2.30 on Saturday afternoon. On receipt of information of the tragedy Constable Mltae and a doctor left Itaetihi for'the scene, but within ten or fifteen mimite3 of his arrival, Graham died without being able to give,any account of the affair. An inquest will be opened at Ohakune on Monday, but will probably be adjourned. The alleged murderess will appear before the Court at Raetihi where a sitting is to be held soon..
