LACROSSE.
[Br Goal UiirißE.] . RESUME OF CLUB PLAY. The followers of Canada's national gauio were again favoured witn Hue weather on Saturday last, and a good muster of players met at Duppa Street to continue the inter-club fixtures. Tho match between Wellington and Columbia was a very fair exhibition of lacrosse. Tnere was not so much ground play, and tho ball kept moving in the •air, making tho game from the spcctitor's point of view (as well as tho phyers) exceedingly fascinating. Right 110111 tho first face-off play became very fast, and, after a good run, Leydon scored an excellent goal. After a iombined attack by the Blacks, Skipper Leo, by a good save, sent the ball down to Firth, who found the net, and the score remained one all for the rest'of the first c|uarter., On resuming play tho Blacks becamo aggressive, and at half-time tho 6core stood four to one in farour of Columbia. At the beginning of the second spell, Leydon and Casey, fed well by their defence players, made a' continuous attack on the Red goal, ultimately notching two more goals. But Wellington wero not yet beaten, Bowen scoring a good goal, making tho score in favour of the Blacks six to two. In the last quarter of the game Wellington had the upper hand, and by combined attack play found the net three times before time was called. The game ended by a one-goal victory for the Blacks. In tho. Kelbume-Capitol match, both teams being out to win, play- was very fast from the beginning, and before Ivelburne's play became combined, Capitol found the net. The defence play ot the Greens was too good for the Blues, whose attack was closely guarded, no opening being given for Estcourt or Hutton to get through. After, a great amount of attack and counter-attack, Capitol notched another goal, and half-time was called, tho score standing two to nil in favour of the Greens. On resuming, play became fast, and still Kelburno were unable to penetrate - the Green defence, but the Greens, getting in a bit of- combined play, notched another goal, and so the score stood three to nil in favour of Capitol when time was called. Capitol's win now leaves them' well up the championship ladder, and unless they suffer defeat shortly there will be no ne6d for the fourth round, so tho other teams had better "sparkle up" if they wish to be the premiers at the end of the season. So far "Goal Umpire" has not heard anything about the representative team, and is inclined to think that it would be a good plan if the selectors were to select, say, eighteen likely representatives, so that practice could be put in, with a view to getting the combination necessary to bring the Proud Shield' back to Wellington. The game has progressed very well in Auckland, and a good team will be sent down. So, if Wellington is not careful, it w;ill not be left here, but taken back asain.
