At tho Supreme Court to-day, befor<S Mr. Justice Cooper, a claim of i! 501 damages for alleged slander, brought by Wi I'araire, a Native clergyman, against Meroleno'To Ariki Huka, n Nativo woman of Milmka, who liatl stated that tho clergyman was ilio father of the child of To Woi, an unmarried Native woman, was concluded. The case came to a satisfactory conclusion, the charges being unreservedly withdrawn. His Honour made the following note "Mr. Blair, solicitor for defendant, at this stage withdraws tho plea of justification, and admits Hint the plaintiff is not tho father of the child of T'e AVai, and expresses the defendant's regret that she mado tire statement, but that, until tho evidence was given to-day, sho honestly believed that it was, bub now is satisfied that it was not correct, and freely and voluntarily withdraws tho statement. Mr. Bumai'd (solicitor for plaintiff) ncccpts this apology nnd withdrawal, and, )>y consent of' both parties, tho caso is withdrawn'and 6truck out, without costs."
