WRIT FIXES IT FOR JULY 17. (By Telegraph.—PrcEa Association.) Greymouth, June 26. Tho writ for tho Grey election was issued ycatorday, and the election mil take place'on Thursday, July 17. It seems a foregone conclusion, however, tliat a second ballot will bo necessary. allegations of delay. PRIME MINISTER'S EMPHATIC DENIAL. Published assertions that the issue of tho writ for the Grey by-elcction had been undulv delayed, and that members of the Reform party had been privately notified beforehand as to the data oil which tho election would takei place, wero mentioned yesterday to tho Hon. \\. i. Massey (Prime Minister). Mr. Massey gavo these statements an emphatic contradiction and described then! as absolute nonsense. As a fact lio pointed out tho Governmont had issued a special Gazette in order that the notification might be made without delay. The writ was issued as soon as tho electoral office had mado tho necessary preparations, It was not a fact, Mr. Mas«oy added, that there had been any unusual delav. On tho contrary, prepaid tions for tho by-elcction had been carried out very quickly.
