The present system of workers' ticket on tho tramways appears to bo open to abuses, <md at last night's meeting of tho City Council, the Tramways Committee mxjmmendetl: "That a six-trip 'return workers' ticket bo adopted in lieu of the present sptom of workers' tickets, in accordance with tho design submitted by the Tramways Board of Management, the prico of tho same to bo 'as under:— Two-section ticket, Is.; throe-section ticket, Is. 6d.; four-section ticket, 2s. These tickets to bo non-transferable. and to be accepted on all ears leaving city termini up to 7.30 a.m., and available for return on all regular cars after 8 n,m., Sundays and holidays cxcoptcd. Also that the neccssary steps be authorised to Ijo takon to obtain the requisite variation in tho Ordor-in-Council." The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), stated tbat under the pTesent system tho workers' ticket might easily bo used on tho return journey by some person other than, tho purchaser, with consequent loss of revenue to the tramways. Tho > system suggested by tho present resolution was designed to prevent this, while retaining all tho benefits for the workers. Councillor H. A. Ho considered tho oouncil ought to go into tho question of providing some system for them. After somo discussion on tho subject, the resolution before tho council, was carried, the Mayor having expired himself in 'sympathy with the workers to whom Councillor Wright had referred.
