THE SYNDICATE'S-FRIENDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Westport, June 25. At a large meeting in the Town Hall to-night it was decided to urge the Minister to grant a Sydney ■ syndicate tho right over the coal-bearing .land adjoining tho Westpoyt .Coal Company's Den--11 istoii area, troin which (by Ministerial permit) the Westport Company has been taking coal. There is stated to be a lower beam of coal on this particular area, and it is tho Sydney yynUicate's'.intention (if .the rights applied for are granted them) to work it. in conjunction wltn other coal measures, in the Cascade Valley, by a tramway which would run down the valley, and connect with the duller Gorge railway. They anticipate being able, on eixht-hour shifts, to produce 2o 'hundred-tons of coal daily, or 4500 tons daily on three eight-hour shifts. It was decided also to urge the Minister for Public Works to speed up' the construction of theßuller Gorgo riulwa.v as the revenue would ensure a handsome profit on its .working. Messrs. t'. I'. Munro and H. Gillen ivcre appointed to proceed to Wellington to lay . the views of. the meeting before tho Ministry, and also'the matter of boring oil the Seddouville State aren, with a view to opening up further coal measures.
