. . , - —: — — . TRAINING PERIOD EXTENDED. , The Hon. James Allen (Minister for Dofence) informed a reporter' last evening that Cabinet had decided to extend by nine months tlio training period of NewZealand officers who, are now attending the Cambsrlev Staff College in England. The additional nine months would bu spent bv (ho officers, in obtaining regimental 'training. Somo other Now Zealand officers at Home are to liavo their training period extended by a year. Considering the expense entailed in sending officers to England, tlio Minister remarked, it was felt that it would be falsa economy to bring them back before itliey had been thoroughly trained. Colonel ltobin is one of tho officers v now in England who; mil be returning to the Dominion soon. Captain beddon is also wider orders to return, and Major Macdonald, formerly in charge of the Jim■for Cadets, will return about the end of the year. „ • Tho Now Zealand officers as they return, will bo appointed to the htafr. Iho period for which some of the Imperial officers, now serving in New Zealand, wero originally appointed, expires next year and tlio Minister stated that sfforts would be mado to induce them to remain 111 the Dominion for another year. Otherwise, as there would not be -enough New Zealand officers available to fill tho vacancies, considerable expense would be incurred in importing additional Imperial officers.
