LEASEHOLDERS TROUBLES.

COMMISSION OF INQUIRY. At the last monthly . meeting of the Harbour Hoard a letter was received from the Wellington Leaseholders'. Association suggesting the setting up of a commission of inquiry into tho condition and terms under which City and' Harbour Board leases are held. Consideration was postponed until the meeting held last uiglit. Mr. Cohen thought it'would b? wise, to <*t up a commission to inquire into the matter of these leases..- He believed that tho terms could be varied so as to bo beneficial to the Board and City Council, and tho leaseholders. He moved that the Board approve of the setting lip of a commission of inquiry. Sir. Trevor seconded the motion. Mr C. Jones said ho had gone pretty well into tho matter, and ho considered that no sane man would take up a lease under sub-clause E. .It not only affected leaseholders in Wellington—it affected leaseholders in other parts of the Dominion. ' The chairman said he understood it was to be a local commission. If it was to be a roving commission ho could not sit on it. Mr. Cohen said that then- business was with tlie Wellington Leaseholders' Association. In view of tho wider scope the commission might take, Mr. Cohen altered his motion to one of approval of the association's suggestion .that a commission of inquiry Iw set up. This was carricd.
