CALGARY BOXING FATALITY, | AN ACQUITTAL; LAW DRASTICALLY DEFINED. By Telegraph—Prcsß Association—Copyright •' (flee. Juno 21. 9.30 p.m.) Ottawa, Juno 21. The jury at Calvary lias acquitted Arthur Polky of tho manslaughter of Luther M'Cart.v (who fell dead during a tenround boxing bout with Polity), finding that Pelky's blow did not kill the'other man. Chief Justice Harvey declared that if the jury found Pelky guilty, ho w;ould not indict a sentence, as tile case was obviously one which had been brought in order to obtain a definition of the law governing prize-fights. Any encounter with fists, even privately-arranged contests, must bo held to constitute a prizo light. This decision practically prohibits boxing in Canada, if the authorities choose to interfere. Luther M'Cart.v,' the boxer, during a ten-round encounter, fell dead, after, it was alleged, being hit over tho heart. At the coroner's inquest it was fouud that M'Carty's death was due to dislocation of the neck. "Tommy" Burns and Arthur Pelky, despite tho finding of the coroner, were committed for trial, it being thought necessary that "a full investigation of the aHair should bo made.

MOTORING.
THE WARRNAMBOOL-MELBOURNE ROAJD RACE. The Dunlop Rubber Company advise tho abandonment of the Wurrnaiubool and all test races in connection with the cycle road race between that' point and Melbourne. The trouble is due to the promoters not having a suitable place in Melbourne to finish the event. Such enormous crowds have witnessed the finish of this race at Hayraarlcet during past years that the police have been unable to control the seething masses which, attended the finish of tie last two events, hence the refusal on the part of the City Council to consent .to the finish at the well-known spot. The Dunlop Company then approached the Victorian Racing Club with a view to being permitted tho uso of its main drive into I'lemington racecourse. Some difficulty has no doubt been experienced, hence /the decision of tho company. It has, however, been decided to replace the Warrhambool'to Melbourne road race this year with tho Australasian 100 miles club team relay road raoo—,£2os prizes, .£IOO prize for winning team of 10 riders. The conditions will be issued next month.
