THE STOCK EXCIIAXGE. The members of tho Wellington Stock Exchange observed yesterday (Prince of Wales's Birthday) as a holiday, consequently there are no share quotations to publish to-day.
LONDON MONEY MARKET. Theiro was just a slight improvement in tho London money market last, week. The metal reserve in the hank increased by over £6C0,000, and there was a substantial incroa.so in the amount of the deposits. The rates for three months' bills were sliehtly lower in London, but higher in Berlin. Tho situation will remain as it is until peaco io assured in the Balkans. Tho war cost Austria a very Ercat deal indeed. Austrian and Hungarian official returns of commercial failures in April show that they numbered 42. with liabilities of £604.1(5 , 05 compared with 39 failures for an asttregaU) of £387,500, during the previous month, and 18 failures for an aggregate of £350,000 in April, 1912. Eliotfc and Co., local agents), writing under dato London, May 16, report as follows:— Supplies of meat to Smithficld market for tho week ending May 10 show an increase of over ICCO tons above the average of last year. The increase consiets principally of chilled beef from South America. Tho demand has inclined to be slow and; on the whole prices a.ro easier.
