BOWLS & BOWLERS.
AMALGAMATION PROGRESS.' The progress of the negotiations which are proceeding between the Northern Bowling Association and the New Zealand Bowling Association is very slow. This is perhaps due to the chill of winter that has so little in oommon with the summer game. ' The Auckland Association has dc-finitely decided not to contribute the £75 to the nucleus fund of the amalgamated body. The Auckland body, it should be explained, has always been regaidcd in Wellington as simply a centre, existing under the N.8.A., but in the south it lias been recognised as a distinct association, hence th® suggestion that it should, with the other two associations, contribute to the nucleus fund. Its action in refusing to contribute is held here to endorse tho Wellington interpretation of its 6tahis. With a definite, refusal to contribute from the Auckland body, tho question of amalgamation between the two big associations Tests on the attitude of the New Zealand Bowling Association, which was to have me.t at Duncdan last night to discuss tho matter in the light of Auckland's attitude. If Otago is prepared to accept the N.B.A. as a body representing the bowling community ot the North Island, it will not be long before a satisfactory settlement ensuring amalgamation will be reached. If, on the other hand, the Isew Zealand Association think that Auckland •should come in on a level with tho N.Z.A. and the N.8.A., a deadlock is likely to occur.
