CHRISTCHUBCH AWARD, (By 'Jekgrarih.—Press Aceoolatlon.) Christchurch, June 21, The Arbitration Court's award in ill# journalists' dispute wa§ filed to-day. No provision was made for sub-editors or femployees on weekly journals. l p or reporters the hours of work are limited'to twelve daily, including meal time. Time worked in excess of these hours is to be paid for within tlio succeeding fortnight, either iirtiino ot tlio rate of an hour and a half for every hour worked, or cash rates of 2s. Gd. per hour. Wages for senior reporters shall bo .£5 155., general report' ors i:5, junior .£3 10s., cadets 255. to 455., casuals 10s. per half-day and 15s. per day! proof readers, JC-1 10s., JM, 10s., ,£3, i£2 10s. Tho proportions of senior, general, and junior reporters are fixed at three, three, and two for a staff of eight; four, tlirefc, and two for a staff of nine. Ono I cadet is allowed to five reporters. Reporters are allowed ono day ond one evening clear a week. Provision is made'for under-ralc workers. Preference is granted tho union. In a .memorandum the Court says:— "Tho Court, is sntisfied that tho work of a reporter is more strenuous in Wellington, but os (he reporters work for both morning and evening papers in Christchurch, their wages nro fixed slightly higher than Auckland and Dunedin. Preference is conceded mainly because it was conceded in the Auckland and Dunedin agreements. Tho Court makes it a condition that the union shall maintain an independent existence and not join any association of trades unions. If ml employer is' called upon to replace any worker by a member of tho union, the employer shall be the judgo of his qualifications, and so long as there is a bona fide exercise of judgment, his decision shall not lie reviewable."
