ROBBERY UNDER ARMS.
. CRIMES IN SYDNEY. MASKED MAN PLUNDERS WOMEN. By Telegraph—Prosa Association— Copyright (Rec. June 20, 10.25 p.m.) Sydney, June 20. On April 24 last tho residence vof Captain Cox, at Woollahra, was entered by burglars, and jewellery to tho value of stolen. Last evening tho two Misses Cox were alone in the house, their brother Eoy, aged sixteen, having just previously left the house. A knock was heard at tho door, which was opened, and a masked man presented a revolver at Miss Cox, and demanded the diamond ring she was wearing, tho value of which was ;8150. She refused, and struck tho intruder, who was knocked down. Her sister came t6 her assistance, and a lengthy struggle took place, during which the sisters received several wounds on their heads and bodies. managed to belabour, the burglar. Eventually the intruder overcame the sisters, and each handed over her ring. The man then decamped. Earlier in the night a man named Leggatt was driving on the Belmore Road when two masked men jumped out of concealment. One seized the horse's bridle, while the other, presenting a revolver, demanded money. Leggatt handed over <£30. and then, jumping out of the buggy, started to run. One of tho highwaymen fired, wounding him in the arm. Both men then decamped. Sensational developments occurred today, when two men, named Laurence and Roy Cox, were arrested, and remanded on a charge of committing the robbery at Cox's on April 24. The arrests wero the result of a confession by Roy Cox that he had arranged with Laurence to rob his sisters last night. Roy Cox also confessed that he and Laurence stuck up Leggatt, by whom young Cox was employed until a few days ago. Cox held the horse, while Laurence lobbed and shot Leggatt.
The police have found the missing rings, and a revolver with one chamber discharged, in Laurence's room. Leggatt states that £70 of his employer's money was in hi 9 possession when "he was stuck up. He leaped out of tho buggy without surrendering any of the money, and ran away. Three shots were then fired after him. The wound on his arm is not serious. This afternoon Roy Cox and Laurence were jointly oharged with assaulting and robbing the Misses Cox.
