WIRELESS TO CANADA.
FOURPBNCE A WORD FROM LONDON Ottawa, May 5In the Dominion House of Commons this afternoon Mr. Pelletier, the Post-master-General, introduced a measure that provided a ratification of an agreement botween the Government and a British syndicate to establish ft new wireless system between Canada and England. In return for a license allowing it to do business in Canada, the syndicate oromisos to give a cheaper service than that now given by the cable companies. Code messages will be eightponco a word, regular messages fourpenco, Government messages 2 l-3d„ and) press messages twopenco. The- company is the Universal Radio Syndicate. Tho system is to be established within twelve months of the date of tho license being granted in Canada. The contract period is five years. If tho system is unsatisfactory the Government will have tho right to take it over. Mr. Pelletier said lie beliovcd tho scheme would reduce the cablo rates bv 100 per cept. Mr. Lemieux congratulated the Minister on tho arrangement, but expressed regret that the Government had not gone ahead with a State-owned cablo without delay. Ho doubted 1 whether a wireless company would evor successfully compelc with the cablo companies.—"Daily Moil."
