Sir Joseph's wife and daughter remain at Ilomo for several months. Tho death occurred at Nurso JacksonV privato hospital yesterday of Mr. John Quoiee, father of Mr. Ernest H. Quereo and Mr. Theo. Quereo (of Messrs. Quereo Bros., Willis Street), wcll-know'n in musical circles. Tlio deceased, who was in his scvonfy-fifth year, resided for many years in Auckland, where tho interment will tako place. Tho appointment of Mr. B. A. James to tho position of general secretary of tho Now Zealand Political Reform Leaguo was tho occasion of a pleasant gathering at yesterday evening's meeting of tho Auckland executive of tho league, telegraplis our special correspondent. During tho last six years Mr. James has been a most activo member of tho executive and of its Literary Committee, and there was a large attendanoo of members to congratulate him on his appointment ond to wish him success in liis futuro field of activity. Generous terms woro employed by several speakers to convoy to Mr. James an expression of tho liigh appreciation in. which his services wero regarded, and complimentary references woro made to tho wisdom of tho appointment, all tho speakers agreeing that tho selection made by tho National Executivo would prove of great practical benefit to the Reform Party. A resolution embodying these sentiments was carried. Tho congratulations and good' wishes of tho executive wero aocompanied by _ a presentation, of a handsome travelling rug.

For'its conoert on November 21, the society lias decided to perform Hondel fl "Samson." Mr. Christian Hellemann has decided to introduce a special foaturo in this work, which will consist of a special choir of a hundred children s voices, to sing in the chorus "See tlio Conquering Hero Comes."
