ONSLOW COUNCIL.
The Onslow Borough Council met last ovening, tho Mayor (Mr. P. Houldsworth) (presiding. Councillors Lynneberg, Gardner, Browne, Bowden, Munro, Alderson, Hoby, and Nicol beiug also present. It was decided, on tho motion of Councillor Lynnoberg, that tho City Electric Lighting Department be advised, in regard to its complaint re lamps being wantonly broken in the borough, that the council would do- its best to deal with the matter. Councillor Browne stated that he had certain information regarding the boys who had committed the offence. It was .decided to write to the parents of these boys. On the motion of Councillor Gardner, it was decided to ask the Inspector of Noxious Weeds to take steps to - prevent the spreading of gorse, etc., in the borough. Councillor Browne moved:—"That a special committee be set up to inquire into and report upon (1) the advisability of removing the Onslow Borough offices from Wellington to new 1 offices to be erected and attached to the Khandallah Public Hftll (provided the consent of the residents bo obtained); (2) the Borough Council to pay tho trustee of tho hall a reasonable rental, to bo Agreed upon previous ito raitification; (3) the proposed committee to consist of the Mayor, Councillors Lynneberg, Alderson, Gardner, and tho mover." In proposing tho motion, Councillor Browne said that tho present offices were only temporary, and it was desirable that offices should be obtained within the borough. He considered that tho council would be the better oft' financially if it had offices in the borough. Councillor Lynneberg did not think that the council would derive any benefit in having its offices in the borough. He stressed the point that, if the offices were moved to Ivhandallah, those ratepayers who worked in town would not be able to record their votes at election times, as the polling-booth closed at 7. p.m. The traiu did not always arrive at 8.45 p.m., and those who left"their work at G p.m. would tlnw be disfranchised. After further discussion tho motion was carried. In regard to the councill's application some four months ago for permission to erect a bathing-shed at Kniwnrra, letters were received from tho Railway Department and Wellington Harbour Board granting permission under certain conditions, and stipulating a certain spotvhero •he shed could bo erected. After some discussion the matter wa.t referred to the councillors representing the Kaiwarra ward.
