On the Basin Reserve to-morrow afternoon Wellington, representatives will meet Otago, who are challengers for the Brown Shield. The local association have arrangements well in hand and all that is wanted is fine weather. The ground is in excellent condition, and 1 a N fast game is expected. Tho Otago team arrive by tho Maori this morning, and ■will stay at the .New Zealander Hotel. They return South by the M-araroa tomorrow evening.
HOCKEY.
FORMATION OF NEW CLUB. A meeting was held this week in the IY.M.C.A. Rooms with the object of forming a new hockey club. About twenty were, present. Mr. Walsh aw was voted to the chair. \
It was resolved that tie club be called the "Pirate Hockey Club," and that the colours be orange and blue hoops, ■icitli a Ikklko of skull and crossbones. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. G. P. Smythe; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. R. Marshall, G; W. G. Davies, A. G. Cathie, C. Hickson, and C. Duck; management committee, Messrs. .N. Walshaw, H. Harris, C. Anderson, and C. Howden; selection committee, Messrs. E. J. Spooner, L. Moss, and G. C. Jessop; club captain, Mr. E. J. Spooner; secretary, Mr. G. C. Jessop. It ;is not the intention of the club to affiliate with the association this season, but to ask their permission to play the third-class teams in their byes. It is ■proposed, however,.. to affiliate - next -season, and to enter at'lea'st'oiie"team 1 in'the , junior grade. It was decided to bold Another meeting in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms this evening, GORDON OTP MATCH.. (By Telegraph.—Bpecial Correspondent.) Masterton, June 19. The first Gordon Cup hockey match of the season was played (Mandwatu .v. Wairarapo) in beautiful weather. There was a good attendance and the ground ■was in good playing order. The game •,was very fast and interesting, the play nt times being of a high order. Ih the first spell Manawatn Jiad the better of the game, giving a good display of passing. The local defence, however, was ■ flood. Wairarapa were the first to score and this came from a forward rush, Tunnicliffo getting tho ball through. A minute later Pitt equalised matters with a clever goal and at half-time the scores were one all.' In the second spell Wairarapa. improved greatly and attacked for the greater part. Several scores were missed through bad shooting, but half way through the spell. Reid scored a good goal, thus giving the local team a point lead. From this but, play was fast, and exciting, but Manawatn were iinludky. not to score. The game ended: Wai- . jarapa, 2; Menawatu, 1.

BOXING.
SUMMERS SEEKS .MATCH HERE. The executive of the Wellington Boxing Association met last night, Sir. K. W. Al'Villy presiding over a full attendance. Mr. W. G. Talbot, the hon. secretary, reported having received a letter from W, Shields, assistant trainer of Johnny Summers, the English welter-weight champion. The writer stated that Summers ,was just about to complete his Australian engagement, and would like a match in New Zealcnd before returning home. He would fight at under lOst. or under 10at. 71b., as desired. It was resolved to offer him a match for August for a purse of ,£IOO, with <£20 pxpenses. A letter from the New Zealand Boxing Council directed attention to the New Zealand championships, which take place at Timaru on July 29 and 30. After consideration of names, the following men were selected to represent tho association at the championships:—Bantam, H. W. Brice; feather-weight, F. Lcarv; light-weight. Earl Stewart; and welter-weight, J. Murphy (provided ho can make weight by July 12). It was reported that the credit balance over the recent provincial championship tourney was £10 16s, 7d., which would .
probably be completely wiped out by the cost of the medals for successful competitors.
LACROSSE.
THIS WEEK'S MATCHES. As the Basin Reservo is not available for lacrosse to-morrow afternoon, play will take place at Wakefield Park (Duppa Street). The matches set down for decision are Capitol v. Kelburne, and Columbia v. Welljnglon. The former match should b'o well contested, as only ono rung on tho championship ladder separates the two teams, and Capitol, who succumbed to Kelburne (I—3) in tho previous round, may be expectcd to strivo hard to retain top place. BOWLS.
WELLINGTON CLUB'S REPORT, The annual report of tho Wellington Bowling Club to be submitted to tho general meeting to bo held on Monday, June 30, states:—The club commenced the year with a debit balance of <£131, and closed with a debit balance of .£'3o6 6s. 3d. During the year the sum of J6289 has been expended on additions and improvements. Thirty-one new members were elected; losses from resignation and other causes were 19; making alpresent membership (including U country members) of 201. Visits were exchanged during the seasop with tho city and suburban clubs. Four rinks journey to Christchurch and were successful in the annual .match against 'the Christchurch Club. The club was also represented in South Island tournaments at Christchurch, Nelson, and Auckland. In view of the amalgamation of the Bowling Associations of New Zealand the considered' the time opportuno for the institution of an annual match between the two champion rinks of. the North and South Islands respectively, arid arranged with the United Club (holders of the South Island championship) for the match to be played on the Christchurch Club's green in last. The honours, however, went to the United Club, which won two games out of three. Regret is expressed that during the nast year death removed two of the club's oldest members—Messrs. W. Finlay and T. Whitehouse. The greens have been carefully attended to, and the directors havo every confidence that they will be in iirsiclass playing order at the opening of the 1913-14 season. The nominations for officers received aro as follow:—President, Mr. D. M'Lean; vice-president, Messrs. E. Moult and W. J. Thompson; hon.' secretary, Mr. W. Brunskill; hon. treasurer, Mr. I.
