FURTHER REGULATIONS. Additions lo the' general regulations nmdo by tho J. üblic St?rvicc Commissioner were i>ublished in last evening's Gazette. One of the additions reads:— "Ba. 351 cry ollicer shall perform public duty beyond the usual hours when required; but in special caws tho Commissioner may, on tlio application of tho permanent head, authorise .special pay. meat; for such extra service. This regulation shall be deemed lo have iu force on and from tile lirst day of April 1913." Under the general regulations the head of a Department is empowered, ill eases of pressing necessity, (o Riant, an oilicer leave of absence not exceeding three working; days.. An additional regulation empowers the head of a Department lo grant will officer leave of absence without pay lor a period .not exceeding one month if, in his opinion, there tiro circumstance;) justifying such a course. Tho grant of such leave is to bo reported to the Commissioner, and where more (hail ono month's leave is desired, application is to be made through the head of a Department, to the Commissioner.
llegulataou 110, covering daily travelling allowances, is struck out, and the following is substituted"The allowance shall bo for each day of twenty-four hourc. For any portion of a day the rate shall ])o ono twenty-fourth of tho full daily rato for each hour's absence: provided that, when the absence does not ex-ceed six hours, actual and reasonable expenses only shall be paid. In all eases the- day shall be deemed to commence immediately after midnight." _ Another new regulation provides that in the case of a new appointment tho Commissioner may allow such sum as in Ins opinion is reasonable to cover the cost of. conveyanco of the officer to his destination. , It is further provided that an officer who is on tho staff as ;i shorthand-writer and typist and has passed a satisfactory examination iu the use of the mechanical office appliances which are being introduced, sliall, so long as lib. is employed upon such machine-work, bo granted a, special increment of ,£lO per annum.
