Ten thousand peoplo watched tho annual Rugby match between tho senior fifteens of Wanganui and To Auto Colleges at tho Palmcrston North. Show Grounds to-day. Tho teams. displayed pretty football. Tho Wanganui boys appeared to bo bigger than tho Maoris, but the advantage was chiefly in height, for the Natives wero a very solidly-built Jot, Wanganui proved weak forward, but possessed a great thrcc-cjunrter-line-easily one of the best trios in tho Dominion.. Cowper scales 12st. 121b., Humphries list. 111b. and Lala. 13st. lib. Cowper and Lala are both exceptionally strong and fast Tunncrs, who take a power of bringing down, and Humphries is a flier who simply leaves tho opposition standing. The trio was not seen at niuto its best, owing to tho five-eighths play being a times selfish. Lala is a Fijian. Tho \\anganui backs resumed their passing tactics. They threw tho leather about very prettily, but To Auto wcro playing closo on to them, and tho "Whites could not get properly under way. Through playing close up on tho Whites To Auto charged down two successive AVanganui kicks, i'ollowing the rebound, ono of tho-Red backs secured the oval, streaked down tho lino, and finally gave a nice pass to Alcto, who raced over at tho corner. Wanganui 3; To Ante, 3. A few minutes later To Aute scored again from a positively brilliant passing rush. Down the field shot tho Red half, out went tho pass to the first five-eighths, on again to til© second five-eighths, who brolv© tho chain by sending a bad pass to tho centre-three-quarter. Tho ball, however, was successfully scooped up and away galloped tho backs again well into the Wanganui twenty-five. Tho attack was momentarily chocked, but immediately tho Maoris initiated tho third spasm, and further smart passing saw Potaka got within striking distance and dive over amidst n scone of enthusiasm. To Aute,_ G; Wa; nganui, 3. Four times the Wanganui backs were now let loose upon tho onemy. Across. the chain of backs tho oval flew with perfect precision, but tho Tc Aute defence withstood tho 6hoek. Onco again Wanganui banged tho ball along from hand to hand, until Cowper— away on the end of tho chain was thrown the'leather. Ho was just heading nicely for a scoro when the slippery ground brought him to earth. Then, from a hneout at half-way, a White forward dropped the ball back to Pearco from whom it skimmed to Harding, to Salmond, to Humphries, and on to Cowper. Cowper left tho opposition in his rear, but when he side-stepped to beat tho full-back, ho was overtaken. In his fall, howover, he got a pass away lo Crosse, who scored, and Parsons goaled; Wanganui, 8; lo Aute, 6. Tho game was evenly contested for some time, and then a cry went up' from the Wanganui regiment on tho stand: "Humphries is away!" Ho galloped up tho middle of the field and by sheer paco raced through the whole lo Aute team and touched down behind the posts. Parsons converted. Wanganui, 13; To Ante, 6.

Second Half: Points Put on Very Fast. For tho first five minutes of tho second spell the teams fought hatd ill niid-neld, and then out of the ruck shot a Red with the leather in his arms. But ho was grassed from behind. Nevertheless, he got the ball away to Moto who got over. Wanganui, 13; To Auto* 9. A strong bumping run by Cowper took play close to Te Autos lino where, from a scrum, Harding got over* Wanganui, 16; Te Aute, 9. Wanganui re-opened passing in To Aute territory, and Cowper, who was given ft chauco near the side-line, dashed over at the corner. Wanganui, 19; Te Aute, 3. The Whites next worked Lala> wing. They got tho leather out to the Fijian, who scored a rather clever try, which Humphries converted with a great boost from the sideline. Wanganui, 24; Te Aute, 9. i The Whites Tesumed their passing tactics, and Cowper was sent away on a thirty yards' dash, in which he brushed aside and mowed down tho Te Aute backs. .He was blocked, but one of the fiye-eightlis continued the movement. A flying tackle grassed him at tho line, but, as ho fell, lie got away a brilliant pass to Humphries, who flashed through the Maoris, and scored near the posts. Humphries goaled. Wanganui, 29; To Aute, !). le Aute wero now 20 points down, and it seemed unlikely that they would improve their position. Urged on by their war whoopers, however, the boys from Hawke s Bay revived, and their forwards poured over the Whites. Out went the leathor to tho Red backs, but tho passing-rush was crumpled up by the solid dumping of the defenders. Nothing, however, was going to stop the Maoris, and they battied for possession of tho ball tnl they regained it, and Kangi'forced a way Parakura converted. Wanganui, 29; le Aute, U.
