Tho Arbitration Court this morning granted two exemptions from the Cyclo Workers' Award on tiio ground that tho union was uuaUo to show that tlio firms concerned wore actunlly employing lianda within tho scope of the award. In t'lio cyclo trado and aerated waters tiades, although tho parties had agreed to clauses in a previous award, the Court ruled that it was entitled to substitute clauses of its '•wn. Tho Journalists' case was set down fol Thursday moraine. BIBLE IN SCHOOLS. PRESBYTERY-TAKES UMBRAGE. Nelson, June 17. At a meeting of the Presbyterian General Assembly's Biblo-in-Schools Committee to-day it'was reported that tho Nelson Presbytery had declined the Assembly's request to assist tho Biblc-in-schools movement because tho Presbyteries had not been consulted.' Tho convener (Rev. R. E. Davics) was authorised to state that' every presbytery had been consulted, and that favourable replies had been received from almost every one. The replies'were submitted to tho Assembly in l 1911, and, in view of tho approval thus expressed, tho Assembly unanimously adopted tho proposals of tho committee. Mr. Davies also states that, in l , 1912, tlie Assembly -unanimously reaffirms I od its decision.
TO CHECK CONSUMPTION. Timaru, Juno 17. Tho Hospital Board to-day received a parcel of posters from tlio Health Department regarding consumption and its prevention, and decided to distribute them among the schools, 1 country post offices, railway stations, and hotels. Also, on tho aavico of the local branch of tho British Medical Association, to obtain a supply of tuberculin to bo distributed among tho medical men for the uso of patients who cannot afford to pay foi treatment.

BAND CONTEST JUDGE. Invercargill, Juno 17. The local Band Contest Committee com ferred this evening with Mr. Jenner, eecTetary of tho South Island Bands' Association in regard to tho appointment of tv judgo for the forthcoming contcst. It was decided to request Mr. Jenner to convcy to the association tho committeo'a desiro to have Mr. Percy Jones (Geelong) appointed"adjudicator, in view of tli© fact that a circular was sent to the bands prior to the date of entries, indicating that Mr.' Jones bad been recommended, and, further, in view of the fact that fourteen bands had entered, and m no case was objection, raised to Mr. Jones. Tho date of entries for the selection and quick-step was extended to June 24, and for solos to July 2.

At tho Supremo Court to-day Edward Saunders, alias James Korth, alias Edward Green, was convicted of pocketpicking at the Napier races on March 1.1 (two charges), and sentenced to two years hard labour and five years' reformative treatment. LIGHTS ON AUCKLAND WHARVES* Auckland, June 17. • A schema for placing distinguishing lights at tho end of the Auckland wharves has been adopted by tho Harbour Board and approved by tho Marine Department.
