HOTEL EMPLOYEES.
CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON. The Wellington Hotel Employees' Union has in hand the arrangements for the annual conference of the Hotel Employees' Federation of tho Dominion, which opens at tho Trades Hall; Wellington,' on Monday next. Tho following unions will bo represented by delegates:—Dunedin, Misa K. Poff, Miss S. Ford, and Mr. J. Haynes, (secretary); Eotorua, Mr. F. Young (presi'dent); Gisborno, Mr. J. Eichardß (secretary); Auckland, Mr. T. Long (secretary), and two others; Wanganuij Mr. D. Conchio (socrotary); Palmerston North, Mr. W. P. .Wright (secretary); Napier, Mr. J. Ifoss (secretary); Wellington, Messrs. Solomon, O'Malley, and Carey, together with tho members of tho executive committee'.
The conference will be representative of over 4000 organised hotel and restaurant workers, and its main effort will. be. in 'the direction of pushing on a Government Bill for < a six-day week for hotel workers. All ts'o affiliated unions havo sent remits, most of tlicm having reference to tie above Bill, but there are others urging general amendments to tho Shops and Offices Act, in tho direction'of providing for tho regulation of hours and holidays in 'private hotels, boarding-houses," and residential clubs. Remits /will also be considered urging tho extension of tho organisation to Nelson, Taranaki, Invercargill, and the West Coast, whero at present tlioro is no registered union of workers in the trade.
