PEATEA'S DAIRY OUTPUT.
INCREASING LONDON SHIPMENTS. (By Telegraph,—Special Correspondent.} Msrton, June 17. Eeturna now available stow that the total cheese shipped from Patea this season has been 147,616 oases, together with 23,501 boxes of butter. Out of this quantity 112,538 case 3 of cheese were shipped to London, and the balance to West of England ports. The figures for last year were: 114,536 cases of cheese and 40,008 boxes of butter. Valuing the cheese at M per case and the butter nt £3 per box, the figures work out st .£660,967 for tho present year's shipments, and .£573,163 for last year, or an increase of ,£62,799 for the present year. The figures are striking as showing the value of the dairy produce manufactured ill Southern Tnranaki. It is somewhat difficult at first sight, to grasp the immensity of tho output of the cheese alone. Assuming each of the 147,616 cases to weigh 1601b.—and, most of them weigh nearer 1701b.—then tho total weight of the cheese shipped this year would be 10,544 tons. Taking into consideration, the fact that each pound of cheeso represents at least 101b. of milk it will be seen that tho total represents no less than one hundred thousand tons of milk drawn from the cows in Southern Taranakl.
