MISHAP TO S.S. MAORI.
STRIPS PROPELLER BLADE, (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, J-uno 15, Tho turbino ferry steamer Maori wafl nearly half-an-hour Into in arriving at Lyttelton from Wellington on Saturday morning. Inquiries made on board showed that the vessel had east a blado from tho centro propeller. Tha mishap occurred about 2.45 a.m., when tho steamer was about ten miles north of Cheviot. Tho vessel had been steaming well, and was a little ahead of titno. Tho first indication of tho accident was a sudden jar to tho ship, which woke up tho passengers. This was followed by a pronounced vibration, in consequcnce of the propellei revolving at high speed with only two blades left. Tho high-pressure turbine, driving tho damaged propeller, was at onco eased down to stop the vibration, and tho vessel camo on lb port at fifteen knots. Tho Maori was docked at 11 o'clock, and it was found that tho blado had snapped off closo to tho boss. A new propeller was fitted, and tho vessel was floated out and Bailed last night.
