LATE SIR A. GUINNESS.

THE FUNERAL. (By Telegraph .—Pi'cos Association.) Greymouth, Juno 13. To-day broke beautifully fine, and early this morning special trains from tho termini of all the West Coast railways began to pour in crowds of people on a mournful mission ..to pay their last tributo of respect to tho Hon. Sir Arthur Guinness, Kt„ M.P., Speaker of the House of Representatives. Business places, public offices, and public and private schools were closed, and there were general expressions of' mourning throughout tho town. At 2 o'clock the largest assemblage ever seen on tho Coast began to gather, including tho Hon. A. L. Herdmnn, Messrs. T. Y. Seddon, J. Calvin, and G. Witty, M.P.'s, mayors, chairmen, and members of local bodies from as far as Boss in the south and Wcstport in tho north. For tho most part tho assemblage was composed of young people and (hose in tho prime of life; lyut there were also present numerous old men, veterans bent and supported by sticks, true and staunch supporters of the deceased through many political campaigns. Tho cortege was headed by brass bands, and members of the.Grey Harbour Board acted as pall-bearers. The hearso was burdened with floral tributes, including wreaths from the Cabinet, tiro Liberal party, members of Parliament, and was followed by tho Hon. A. L. Herdmnn, Messrs. Witty, Colvin, and Seddon, M.IVs, members of 'tho Westlnnd Law Society, chairmen ami membsrs of tho West Coast Harbour Boards, governors of the High School Board, mayors, members of tho Borough Councils and tho Westland, Grey, and Inangnlnia Comity Councils Mid Education Boards and School Committees, Trotting and Jockey Clubs, Friendly 'Societies, and tho- (ranoral nublic. Tho carriages in tho cortege extruded for about a mile find a half, malting an impressive procession. Tho last solemn rites of tho Church of England wero performed in the presence of a very great congregation by tho Von. Archdeacon York, assisted by Dr. Black (Presbyterian).
