There is a strike of municipal workers at Leods (unauthorised by the union) which is menacing the public health. The streets are unswept, tho gutterß are clogged, and the sewage purification works are at a standstill, the crude effluent discharging into the river.^ Strikers are blocking amateur ecavengfrs from working. The men demand increased wages and better conditions. CAMPAIGN AGAINST NONUNIjPNLSTS. 1 Melbourne, June 12. The unionists on the Bcndigo goldfields are adopting stringent tactics to induce non-unionists to join. Serious developments arc threatened. SHIPYARD WORKERS. (Rec. Juno 12, 9.50 p.m.) London, Juno 12. As the result of the Shipyard Conference at Edinburgh, the notices to strike have been suspended. A ballot has been ordered regarding the masters' offer of an increase of a shilling per week, or 21 per cent., for riveters, and conoerning the institution of a, neutral chairman.
