UPPER HUTT COURT. Tho monthly sitting of the Upper Hutt Court was conducted before Dr. M'Arthur,' S.M., yesterday. . George Fiutey pleaded guilty to a charge respecting milk which did not complj witli tho requirements of tho Act. Ho was convicted and lined 205., and costs 7s. James Finlay sued May Crabtreo for .£l, in payment for certain alterations to a skirt. Mr. Neilson appeared for defendant, and Mr. Bailey tor plaintiff. James pinky, tailor, of Upper Hutt, stated that defendant brought in a skirt to bo made tighter. He charged for effecting the alteration and he thought that was a fair price. For the defence it was contended that the skirt was spoiled by tho alteration having been made too tight. Defendant had offered 10s. in payment. Judgment was given for plaintiff for 10s., with cr.«ts Bs. A counter-claim entered by defendant for £2 10s. for alleged spoiling of the skirt was dismissed. Ernest Webb claimed .£ls for alleged wrongful dismissal, from the employment of J. M. Ferguson, poultry farmer, at Trentham. In the course of his evidence plaintiff stated that defendant had accused liim of stealing eggs and dismissed him. He (witness) had had to wait for his wages. Robert Henderson, Amelia Henderson, and Ernest Jay gave evidenco for plaintiff. Defendant (James M. Ferguson stated that thcro had been pilfering and there was a shortage of eggs. He mado a few inquiries and found eggs in Webb s basket. Ho questioned the assistants, including Webb, and as a result tho latter was dismissed. An amount of .£6 15s. had been paid into Court for wages. Hugh Minchin deposed that on one occasion plaintiff had told witness that "ho would be a fool" not to take somo potatoes belonging to defendant. William M'Kenzio corroborated tho evidence of defendant. Judgment was given for tho amount paid into Court, ,£fl 155., plus J!1 Is., solicitor s fee. Mr. Railing, representing Mi;. I'indlay, appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. NeilBon for defendant. 11l tho following cases judgment was given for plaintiffs' by default Alfred Southeo v. diaries Wycth, «£7 3s. and costs Ss.; Inspector of Awards v. UPPER HUTT INQUEST. An inquest concerning the death of Mary Thompson, aged 45 yeflTS, who died at Upper Hutt last Saturday, was concluded before the District Coroner, Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., yesterday. Dr. Kemp reported having field a postmortem and in his opinion death was duo to heart failuro caused by certain poisoning of the liver. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical testimony. SKATING AT HUTT. Kinking is booinjng at Lower Hutt, and the novices' room is crowded during the sessions. Mr. H.' Burridgo. is personally supervising the learners' rooms, and, as an expert skater, is in a position to quickly fit this class of patrons for the main room. This aftornoon and evening sessions will be held, and on Saturday tlio rink will bo open in the afternoon and evening. Next week a fresh novelty will bo introduced. THE DANDIES. After a successful season in Wellington "The Dandies" played a one-night \isit to Lower Hutt last evening. The King Georgo Theatre, in which tlio company gave their entortainment, was packed. Tlio programme included tlio best c-f the company's repertoire. "The Dandies" will pay a return visit to Lower Hutt on 6ome juturo dute. PETONE WHARF PROPOSALS. At the ordinary meeting of the Petone Borough Council, to bo held on Monday next, Councillor Findlay will move:— '"That facilities be given to work cargo at tho Petono Wharf as follows:-(l) That rails sufficient to carry four tons be laid; (2) that a shed largo enough to storo 1000 tons be erected at roof of structure; (3) that electricity be tho motive power, 'in conjunction with tho drainage scheme: (■1) that a small committee of the council be appointed to confer with tho Engineer, ro tho combination of electric power for both draiimgo and whart."
