HOCKEY. THE MID-WEEK ASSOCIATION. RESULTS OF MATCHES. Hereawa 1 Hui Mai 0 Pakelm A 2 Artillery 2 .First games in the second round of the raid-week 'hockey competition wero played oil yesterday afternoon in dull weather— tho last few minutes in heavy rain. The form in the match between Hereawa and Hui Mai was of.a high order, especially that of Robinson, who played in-goal for Hereawa. Without doubt, his line defence won the game for Hereawa. Judged on their style in the match, Pakeha AArtillery, the latter team, seems to be showing improvement with each. game. Tho forwards outclassed their opponents in combination and passing, and Pakeha was lucky in making a draw of it. Both these games were played at' Karori, HEREAWA & HUI MAI. From the bully, Hui Mai broke away, and play was at once inside the Hereawa twenty-live. The rush was stopped by Lo Compte, and play shifted over the half-way line. For a time honours were very even, but, eventually, liuch getting the ball on. his own side of half-way, carried it into the circle, and scored a lucky goal for Hereawa. The Hui Mai forwards, who were getting into their stride, liow showed plenty of dash and form, and shot after shot was sent in, but Robinson (in-goal) was playing a great game, and he met them all the time. His stopping and clearing were perfect. The spell ended with Hereawa one goal to the good. In the second spell tho play was fast and brilliant. Hui Mai had all tho best of tho rallies, but could not get through Hereawa's defence. Tho latter, although playing a man short, were also putting up a good fight, the half-back line doing good work, and passing well. The game ended with Hui Mai defending, and in favour of Hereawa by one goal to nil. . , For the winners, Boyd, Spiers, Le Compte, .Clementson, and Robinson were prominent. For Hui Mai, Bree, Hill, Cameron, M'Keever, and Brookor' were the pick of.a good lot. Mr. J. C. Cusack was referee,
PAKE HA A & ARTILLERY. Artillery broke away from the bullyoff, and, for a time, play was in Pakeha's quarters, but Paget, by a long drive, shifted the venue. Up and down play followed, and thfen the Artillery forwards, passing well, and playing with good combination, carried . play; into the circle, and May scored. Artillery, 1; Pakeha, nil. From this till tho end of tho spell play was even. After some give and take, which marked the opening of the second spell, Artillery attacked, and Perry (Pakeha) added, to Artillery's score by sending the ball into his own goal. Pakeha then put more life into tlieir operations. Thev soon had Artillery on the defence, and Jackson, centring to Gracie, the latter sliot a beautiful "back-hander" into the net. Shortly afterwards, however, Bowater, by a hne shot, made the scores oven. The game ended without any further score. ' Gracic, Paget, and Bowater played best for Pakeha, and Jones; Cox, and May for Artillery. Mr. Empson was referee.
