Reception at Government House. A very largely-attended reception was held by their Excellencies tho Governor and tho Countess of Liverpool at Government Houso last ovening. Tho contrast from tho biting atmosphere outside to tho warm, cheerful rooms inside was doubly pleasant to everyono upon their arrival at the rice-regal residence. Their Excellencies received at the further end of tho ballroom, and after bping presented, tho guests passed on -fffto tho drawing-rooms and conservatory beyond, or clustered in tlte corridors. A strfng band stationed in the ballroom played at intervals during theevening. Supper was laid in tho diningroom, the tables and mantelpicco having been arranged with berrie9 and tiny, clustering pink flowers. Her Excellency "the Countess of Liverpool wore a gown of white brocade, the corsage being draped with ninon and jewolled lace, and a diamond tiara, on her hair. Lyeopodium, with its graceful fc,sloons, added a lighter, softer noto to the decorativo scliome, ond harmonised well with tho flowoc stall, which occupied a central position on the floor, and was laden with palms and ilowers. Tea waa laid on tables in tho elosed-in balcony, and—an uncommon feature at this time of tho year—there woro strawberries and cream for tho purchasing. Needless to say, in spito of tho cold woatlier, thero was a largo demand for Ihom. Mrs. Godlev, More opening tho sale, w<is presented with a, very charming bouquet of viojets, freesias, and maiden-hair fern, tied with mauve streamers, by llttlo Miss Marjorio Liardet. The Dev. Thoro were also several side-shows, such as Punch and Judy, in'charge'of, Captain Jelly; art gallery, Mr. H. Bray; na'ildriving, Mr. Hatch; hat-trimming for men, Miss Tlmrr; button-sewing, Mr. Greenwood. An excellent programme had also been arranged for the evening, tho Wellington Quartet and Madame Brainsby assisting. The salo will be continued to-day and also this evoning. Levin Home. The usual monthly meeting of the Levin Homo Committee waa held on Tuesday. June 10. Tho matron reported that several of tho children were not well this month. Gifts were acknowledged with thanks from tho Two-Garment Society, Mrs. J. P. Luke, Mrs. Chatfield, Mr. Huroombe, Mr. Mawson, and tho Misses Preston, Christie, Archibald, and Young. Genee. Mr. Richard Stewart, manager of Williamson's Pantomime Company, had the privilege ot sponding Kings Birthday in Auckland with Adeline Genee. tho world's greatest dramatic 'dancer. He describes her as having tho most charming personality of any artist ho has ever met. Though she ig not what tho world might call beautiful, 6he is full of tliat rare quality which Mr. •). M. Genee s husband (Mr, Isitt) accompanied her as far as Honolulu, and then had to return on account of business engagements. It will be heard with, regret that Goneo is rjot to perform in New Zealand, owing to the exigencies of time.

Mr. and Mrs. P. Wright, of Dunedin, are leaving Wellington to-day by the Athenic for England. A service was conducted at St. Peters Chnreli by tho Rev. Archdeacon Harper, who also officiated at the graveside in the Ivarori .cemetery. Among Uiose present wore representatives of the firm of K w ; grills and Co., and membors of the ivaioti Rifle Club.
