A Hampden Wedding. Last Wednesday, at Hampden, Hawke's Bay, tho marriage took place of Miss Clara Ann Eliza Parkinson, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Parkinson, to Mr. Georgo Kichard Brown, of Palmerston North, eldest eon of Mr. ft. E. Brown, of Ponsonby, Auokland. The Undenomination Church, in whioh the ceremony was performed, had been prettily decorated, and the Rev. W. G. Maelin conducted the service. Miss S. Buchanan played tliP organ. Tho bride, who was given awiy by her, father, wore a gown of cream radiants, with orange blossoms and a veil, and her gift from the bridegroom of a gold necklet with pearl and amethyst pendant. Instead of a bouquet she carried a floral ring of exotic ferns and cream roses from Gwavns Station. The bridesmaids, tho Misses Ruby and Ruth Parkinson, sisters of the bride, wore pretty palo blue and pink muslin frocks respectively, with Juliet cap, and they carrier shower bouquets of cream roses and maidenhair fern. Mr. E. Scarrott was tho best man, and Mr. Arthur Poulds the groomsman. The bride's gife to the bridegroom was a dressing-case.

Mrs. Parkiulson, the mother of the brido, wore a gown of black satin, with a black hat and plumes. Mrs. Arthur ' i Anderson, sister of the bride, was in a dark costume and beaver hat with plumes. Misa Alioe Parkinson was in navy blue, and Miss Belle Parkinson, also navy blue with hat to match. After the wedding Mr. and Mrs. Parkinson entertained a large number of guests in tho Oddfellows' Hall, and all the "usual toasts were pro--posed and honoured. Latei, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Brown left by motor for Waipawa, en routo to Palmerston North, amid congratulatory farewells, and shoivera of rice and confetti, tho, bride's travelling costume being a dark cloth tailor-made dress with beaver hat and large blue tinted plumes. Prior to the wedding day tho bridegroom olect was entertained at Palmerston North by his friends, and received a largo number of presents there. Mr. and Mrs. George Parkinson also entertained a large number of friends at tho hall during tho evening. Masterton Club Ball. The ball which was given on Thursday evening in Mastorton by members of tho Masterton Club had been a long-looked-lor ward-to occasion, and, unliko many other realisations, quito fulfilled all expectations. A temporary ballroom had been built beside the club, and its interior was artistically draped with pink and decorated with native ferns, palms, I and foliago. The tables in tho two sup- ; per rooms had been arranged with pink and rod artificial flowers, and tho billiardroom with brown-shaded chrysanthemums and autumn foliage. In the corridors were tall, graceful fern trees ajid festoons of lycopodium and scarlet berries, while tho verandahs were closed in, and turned into comfortable resting-places. In tho reading-room were masses of red and yellow flowers and much autumn foliage. The guests were received by the president of itho club, Mr. W. Beetham, and Mrs. Beetham, the latter wearing black, with touches of beautiful lace. Among those who were present were: Mrs. H. H. Beetham, wearing black satin with jet trimming, and overdress of handsome lace; Mrs. Bethell (Christchurch), gown of shot-green and violet brocado; Mrs. R. Maunsoll, ceriso satin; Mrs. Erl Williams, cream satin with overdress of black ninon; Mrs. Hugh Williams, black eatin with jot embroideries; Mrs. Henry, pale pink, trimmed with laco; Mrs. 6. Kiddiford, blue charmeuse, with ovordress of embroidered ninon; Mrs. W. Bidwill, grey with embroidered cream overdress; Miss Hindmars'h (Napier), ceriso ninon; Mrs, Lawrence, pink satin with overdress of beaded ninon: Mrs. C. Jackson, pink charmeuse, veiled with silver net; Mrs. Spain, black velvet with white lace; Mrs. J.'Buchanan, cream brocado draped with ninon; Mrs. D. Caselborg, floral chiffon; Mrs. A. Caselberg, white satin, with black ninon overdress and gold embroideries; Mrs. Fenton, white satin; Mrs. J. M'Rao, brown charmeuse; Mrs. D. Graham, white satin, with overdress of blaok lace; Miss Beetham, whito satin, draped with violet. Mrs. Cockburn-Hood, oyster satin, with overdress of tangerine and violet trimmings; Mrs. Ewart, black satin, with I touches of ceitfso; Mrs. Wardell, lavender charmeuse, with jewelled tulle; Mrs. Dalzicll, primrose satin; Miss Wolff, Royal blue satin; Mrs. J. Blundeli, ceriso with black laoe overdress; Mrs, Lewis, vieux rose, trimmed with laco and with touohos of blaok; Mrs. Ahrens, white frock, with touohes of blue; Miss Hirschberg (debutante), whito satin; Misa Jessie Milne ! (debutante), whito Batin veiled with ninon; Miss Mace, white satin; Miss Pilmor, jewelled bluo ninon; Miss Lewis (debutante), palest pink satin; Miss Ewart, tangerine satin veiled with ninon; Miss Armstrong (Dannevirke), debutante, white satin and ninon; Miss M'Rae (debutante), whito satin; Miss A. Jackson, apricot satin with lnce overdress; Miss D. Jackson, pink satin veiled with ninon; Mrs. L. Moore, white satin veiled with Bilver net; Mrs. 0. Bunny, black and emerald green; Mrs. Ramsden, palo bluo; Miss Young, pink and pale blue frock; Mrs. Dyer, black satin. Also there were present: Miss Christie (Wanganui), Mrs. Bey (Gre.vtown), Mrs. F. Bunny, Mrs. W. Bunny, Miss Cormack, Miss Halse (Wellington), Dr. Bey, Dr. Cowie, Dr. Cook, Messrs. H. H. Beetham, Mawley (2), Rodney (Pahiatua), Collins, Harrison, Spain, Hirschberg, Donald (2). Beetham (2), Rhodes, Stone-Wigg, and many others. Tho Australasian Instltuto of Marine Engineers is holding its annual social at the institute rooms on June 20. Mr. and Mrs. F. White (Tone) have been staying at the Royal Onk Hotol. The engagement is announced of Miss Nora Osborne-Gibbes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Osborne-Gibbes, to Mr. C. B. Holmes, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Holmes. Mr. and Mrs. H. Hume, who have been, staying at tho Royal Oak Hotel, leave for Masterton to-day. Mrs. Longford, of Dunedin, is visiting her daughter, Miss Longford. Mrs- Rolleston, expert hairdresser, givos advice gratis on all matters pertaining to tho hair. Sho has a wide selection of the latest coiffure modes, carefully chosen by her Parisian agent"

Tlio engagement is announced of Misa Ella O'Reilly, daughter of Mr. D. O'Uoilly, of Hastings, Itawko'B Bay, to Mr. Mylis Edward Dourloy, second 60n of Mr. lidward IJourley, of Tinvane House. Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, Ireland. Miss O'lioilly is at present on a visit to Great Britain, but alio will return to' New Zealand before tho wedding, which is to take placo in Ireland at the beginning of next year. Miss O'Reilly's future home will boln Ireland.

At the bi-monthly meeting of tlio Wellington College Ola Girls' Literary Club, held at the Girls' College on Saturday night, tho vice-president, Miss Robertson, gave a very interesting and instructive papor on "The Life of Mark Twain." This was followed by readings from Mark Twain's works by several of tho girls present. Altogether, a very pleasant evening wag spent. The next meeting will be a Browning evening, whon the paper will be jjiven by Miss M'Loan, presidonc of tho club.
