Ho hopes, in passing through tho United States, to visit tho mounted service school at Fort Riley, and various other service schools of tho American Army at Port Leavenworth and ' elsewhere, In England, General Godley will attend tho Aldershot manoeuvres, and also tho big annual Army manoeuvres. He has already booked his return passago by the Orient liner Orvieto, which leaves England in November. General Godley will thu9 be back in New Zealand at about tho end of tho year. News was received by the last American mail of the marriage of Mr. Etholbert Hales, of the American stage, son of tho lato Mr. W. H. Hales (formerly Engineer-in-Chief for Now Zealand) and Mrs. Hales, of Oriental Bay, to Miss Molly Pearson, an English actress, who, after visiting the United States with Mr. Forbes Robertson, was engaged by Mr. Wm. A. Brady. Mr. and Mrs. Hales have been appearing for some time past in that successful play, "Bunty Pulls the Strings." They liave left the United States to spend the summer vacation on a tour of Panama and tho West Indies. Subsequently thoy will 'visit England' before roturning to America for next season. ' Sir Joseph Ward and family will rail for New Zealand on June 20 (states a Press Association cablegram). Mr. David M. Sutherland, of Hinakuro, Wairarapa, left on a trip to Australia by the Moeraki last ovoning. Mr. J. E. Henrys, the well-known handicapper, left for Sydney by tho Moeraki last ovoning to nttend tho wedding of his daughter, Miss Josephino Henrys, who is to bo married this month to' Mr. Hansen Abol, of Sydney. jrr. G. A. Wilson, one of tho directors of tlio Hemingway and Robortson School of Correspondence, Auckland, is at present on a visit to Wellington. Mr. L. Craig has, says our Wanganui correspondent, been admitted as a barrister of tho Supremo Court. Dr. H. A. Davies, of levin, it is stated* ■ will leave for England by s.s. Paparoa on Juno 26, Tho remains of tho lato Mr. Archibald Kelly, at one time president of tho New Zealand branch of tho Institute of Marino Engineers, were interred in tho Sydney Street Cemetery 011 Thursday afternoon. The burial service was conducted by tho Revs. J. T. Chapman and W. S. Potter. The chief mourners wero Messrs. James and John Kelly (sons), J. W. Gibson (son-in-law), and Stanley Kelly (grandson). Mr. Archibald Kelly was unable to be present. The cortege was a representative one, members of the Institute of Marino Engineers being present in largo numbers. Wreaths wero received from a number of privato citizens, from.tho staff of To Aro House, and tho Stewart Timber and Hardware Co., also one from the Institute of Marine En- t gin ecrs.
