CHRONOMETER RATING NOTICE. Hector Observatory, Wellington.—The position of tho Heotor Observatory is as follows Latitudo, 41deg. 17min. 3.765ec. South. Longitudo, 11 hours 39min. 4.275ec. East of Greenwich. . Hoight, above 1909 mean sea level, 418 feet. Chronometer Rating Notlco.—At 1 p.m. to-day a galvanometer tignal for rating chronometers will be sent from the Observatory to tho Public Telegraph Office and to the Dominion Museum. The needle, will move at I p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean time, when a chronometer Bet to Greenwich mean time should show 15 hours 30min. Any difference will be the on-or of the chronometer on Greenwich mean time.

At 9 p.m. correot time will also bo signalled from tho Observatory by means of electric lights. A green light will be switched on at about 0.45 p.m., a red one at about 8.55 p.m., and a white one at about 8.59 p.m., and all lights will be switched off at 9 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean time. Tho prepare tory switching on of the lights must be considered as only approximately correct, and mußt not be used for rating chronometers. The correct timo for rating will be given by switching off the lights simultaneously at 9 p.m. 0. E. ADAMB, Government Astronomer. Wellington, June 4, 1913.
