LACROSSE.
DISPLAY GAME AT THE BASIN. In order to endeavour to popularise their very fine giiinc, tho enthusiasts who play Lacrosse in AVellington gave an exhibition match yesterday morning on the Basin Reserve. A" ?rowd of over 700 people looked on at the match, many of them, no doubt, witnessing a Lacrosso gamo for tho first time in their lives. The teams matched represented Pioneers and Present Players, and tho younger men won an exciting game.by G goals to 5. In tho first spell tho Pioneers led easily, but later tho speed was too fierce for them in their untrained condition, and they wero defending most of the time. Goals were scored for the winners by Leydon (2), Grant (2), Jordan, and Andrews, and for the Pioneers by Estcourt (3). Rankin, and Ryder. Mr. E. T. Proud was referee.
