last-named, liowover, scooped up adroitly, and. stieaking for tho line, ran in unopposed. Wellington, 3; Wairarapa, 0. In two instances, thereafter, Wellington got over tlie linp, but minor breaches of tho rules robbed them of a score. A flying mark by Twomey on Wairarapa's side of half-way allowed Lambert a chance at goal. /Placing tho ball fifty yards out, Hie big full-back landed a beautiful goal.

Wellington, 6; Wnirarapa, 0. A forward rush a little later, and the ever-will-ing _ Bell was across. Wellington, 0; W'airarapa 0. AYairarapa's forwards nunle matters very lively for Wellington for eonio time, and then they broke clean away and carried play right to the Wellington goal, where they were just checked ini time. Right in "front of the goal tlio Greens got a mark, and M'Keiuzie was given a shot, but his kick was charged down. A moment later a free-kick was awarded the visitors, and, taking his shot from about the samo place, M'Kenzie put the oval over tho bar. Wellington, 9; Wairarapa, 3. For the remainder of the spell Wairarapa was seen to little advantage, except on ono occasion when 11. Matson caught .Dingle napping and initiated an attack which was pressed very close to Wellington's line. Wellington opened the second spell by scoring in the first minute. Milter got over from a forward rush, and ' Roberts converted. Wellington, H; Wairarapa, 3. Bad bungling by Lambert at full-back let Wairarapa ' over, but Wellington forced. Lambert took tho drop-out, but bungled that up; with tho 'result that Wellington wore forced again. After a great' but ineffectual shot at goal from fifty yards out, M'lvenzio easily goaled from thirty-fivo yards .distant. Wellington, 14; Wairarapa, G. \oung, the/ Wellington wing-three-quarter, was at this badly knocked out through one oi the visitors giving the ball a tremendous boast while it was lying against luin. retired foi tv wliilc, but afterwards returned to the field. The visiting forwards. battersd away at the Wellington defence, and quickly forced tho city team. One of the ;Greens endeavoured to pull the game out of/the toe by potting a goal, but lus shot missed. Penalised in a dangerous position, Wellington looked fairly certain to have their lead wiped off, bnt M'Kenzie s attempt to goal was a poor ono. The game concluded in the dusk, with play at half-way. Final: Wellington, 14 points; Wairarapa, 11 points.

UNIVERSITY GAME. LOCAL COLLEGE & AUCKLAND. A set of backs of uncommon brilliance behind a mediocre forward pack fairly describes the Auckland University team, which wero opposed to tho Victoria Collego fifteen yesterday. Five minutos after tho start, Stainton sent the ball out to the Victoria Collego backs, and Faire was crowded into touch near tho corner flag. A moment later Fawoett struggled over tho line, but was forced into touch in Eoal. In spite of tho strong sun tho AVellington backs were taking the ball better and kicking beltei than their opponents. Beard had a shot at goal from half-way, but the ball, though straight between the posts, foil a littlo-short. Ho took tlio return himself, and initiated a passing bout, which looked dangerous, but tliera were too many Green men bunched on tho flank, and they mixed things up badly. A series of exchanges brought no result for either side until Quilliaw oluirged down a return. .A minute later Stainton. took a mai'k, and L. Beard kicked the ball over but an Auckland' forward had touchcd the leather, and the goal was disallowed. A few minutes later T. Beard had a shot from almost the samo spot, and this time registered a goal. The first spell ended with the scores: A r ictoria College 3, Auckland 'University 0. Ryan camo on in tho second sljell to replaco O'Slioa, who had retired with an injured knee. After five minutes' play L. Beard, made a sensational break, and, with his heavy weight and /emarkably fine speed, be simply ran over all taclilers, making a clear, straight dash of 50 yards. The Auckland full-back did no more than put him out of his stride, and though this "was hardly necessary, lie'passed to Paulsen, who scored unopposed. T. Beard goaled a beauty. AMctoria College 8, Auckland University nil. The Auckland backs' ■ then 1 ' showed ■■ their - quality, .but after four transfers Darby, centra threequarter, gavo a faulty pass. The Auckianders, however, presently camo with a passing run, a very short and nippy one. Tho ball went sharply out from' Ross at tho scrum to Geddes to Gray, who scored at the posts. Gray converted tho try himself. AVellington 8, Auckland 5. The Blues were throwing the ball about now every time the slightest opening offered, and always they looked dangerous on tho move, but their chances were few, for tho Greon forwards overwhelmed their opponents. A simply bewildering piece of passing by the Bluo backs liad tho Greens absolutely nonplussed. Tho ball came out through half a dozen pair of hands to Macky on the wing, who put in a good run, beating a couple of men, and then tho leather was sent inwards by half a dozen passes to Gray, who scored under the posts. Macky fulled to goal, leaving the scores equal. AVellington 8, Auckland 8. That was tho final tally, but the play, up. till "no side" was sounded, continued to bo interesting. Mr. L. Simpson was referee. MATCH AT WANGANUI. (By,Telegraph—Press Association.! Wanganui, Juno 3. Taranaki defeated the Wanganui Rugby representatives by 26 points to 5.
